Linux vs. Windows Hosting
Just because your PC runs Windows does not mean your website has to. The difference between Linux and Windows hosting is the type of technology associated with each platform. If your website is written in a Linux-based programming language (such as PHP or Perl) then you will require Linux hosting whereas Windows hosting is suitable for websites written in a Windows-based programming language (such as ASP or .NET). If your website is not dynamic and does not use either of these languages (plain HTML) then we recommend the Linux package due to the lower cost. Linux is an open-source (free) platform whereas Windows servers require licensing, hence the slightly higher hosting costs.
